The trial regarding the gruesome murder that took place in 2022 began in the court in Elche, Spain. The 80-year-old Briton Monica Warren was murdered in a villa in Costa Blanca, Spain.

On the first day of the trial, Yolanda G.R. - the real estate agent, admitted that she stabbed and shot the retiree. She also stated that her then-16-year-old son was in the car parked outside the villa at the time of the crime. It was only afterward that the mother asked him to help her move and hide the body.

The gruesome crime came to light because a plumber called by the retiree showed up at her home. The man realized something was wrong when he noticed a pool of blood and - as he later explained to the authorities - encountered two people in hoodies leaving the elderly woman’s home who tried to persuade him to come back the next day. They claimed the retiree was ill.

In the courtroom, the real estate agent argued that she did not know her victim, and at the time she committed the crime, she was suffering from a psychotic episode. According to the investigators, the woman planned the murder. She was looking for a villa to sell to her client then.

The prosecution demanded 28 years in prison for Yolanda G.R.: 25 years for the murder and three years in prison for causing damage. According to the indictment, after committing the crime, the woman poured gasoline on her car and then set it on fire in the street in Alicante to get rid of the evidence. The flames spread and also engulfed other parked cars.

A verdict in this case will be rendered soon. Charges were also brought against the real estate agent's teenage son. His trial was supposed to begin in June, but the 18-year-old tragically died in a car accident the day before the trial was to start. He lost control of the vehicle while driving on the highway near Campoamor, south of the Torrevieja resort.
