Looking for an idea for a unique dinner? Chicken thighs in barbecue sauce is a dish that will delight your loved ones. Aromatic meat, a slightly crispy skin, and the intense flavour of the sauce – this combination guarantees culinary success.

Chicken meat is one of the most versatile products in our kitchen. We can prepare it in many different ways, and one of the most frequently chosen is chicken thighs. It's the perfect base for quick and simple dinners, but also for dishes that we can successfully serve at more elegant dinners.

Although it seems that roasted thighs hold no secrets for us, there is one recipe that can change the way we look at them. Chicken thighs in barbecue sauce is a dish that stands out not only for the tenderness of the meat but above all for the richness of flavours and aromas that tempt you even during baking. Thanks to the proper marinade and sufficiently long baking, the meat becomes so tender that it literally falls off the bone.

How to prepare chicken thighs in barbecue sauce?

Chicken thighs in barbecue sauce is a dish that does not require complicated ingredients or special culinary skills. Just a few simple products that you surely have in your kitchen to create a truly exquisite dish. Here's how to prepare these delicious thighs step by step.

Ingredients:

  • 4-5 chicken thighs.

Ingredients for barbecue sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons of oil,
  • 1 onion,
  • 3 cloves of garlic,
  • ½ cup of red, dry wine,
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar,
  • 1 cup of tomato purée or 4 tablespoons of tomato paste,
  • 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika (spicy or mild),
  • 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce,
  • 1 tablespoon of wine vinegar,
  • 2 teaspoons of salt,
  • 1 teaspoon of ground pepper,
  • parsley for decoration.

Preparing the sauce:

  1. Start by chopping the onion into small cubes and crushing the garlic. Heat two tablespoons of oil in a pan and sauté the onion until golden. After a while, add the garlic and continue to sauté.
  2. Next, add brown sugar and stir until it caramelizes. This will give the sauce a delicate sweetness and depth of flavour.
  3. Add the tomato purée, wine, and spices – smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, wine vinegar, salt, and pepper. Sauté everything for a few minutes, allowing the ingredients to combine.
  4. Set the sauce aside to cool.

Preparing the chicken thighs:

  1. Wash and dry the chicken thighs. Then place them in a shallow dish, lightly greased with oil. Pour the previously prepared barbecue sauce over them.
  2. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for a few hours, preferably overnight. Marinating the meat longer will make it juicier and more aromatic.
  3. After removing from the refrigerator, preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the thighs covered for 45 minutes, then uncover them and bake for another 30 minutes to make the skin crispy and appetizing.

After baking, decorate the meat with chopped parsley and serve with your favourite sides – it can be roasted potatoes, rice, groats, or fresh vegetables.
