Every murder and its attempts are wrong and unnecessary. Sometimes, however, we receive news that literally makes our blood run cold. Crimes can be so bloody, strange, and terrifying, that even the person reading about them may feel nauseous. These crimes often involve murders combined with rapes, or the killings of children or pregnant women. It is appalling to see how much people can dehumanize themselves at times.
We faced just such a situation in Russia. In October 2023, horrible news spread across the country. It was about an attempted murder by a citizen. It turned out that he attacked his former partner. The way he decided to try to end her life shocked society as well as the police officers. The case is gaining attention once again because the convicted person might be released soon.
He crucified and set fire to his ex-partner
The brutal attempted murder is recalled by the "Daily Mail". The crime took place in October 2023 in Yekaterinburg, Russia, where the body of a woman was found. It turned out to be 40-year-old Oksana Kuzmenko. What the officers saw undoubtedly shocked them. She was nailed to a board. It was determined that her body was set on fire. The crime was committed by the woman's former partner, 33-year-old Oleg Shchegolikhin. He admitted he tortured her because he couldn't accept that she left him.
- He took off my shoes, took my left leg and drove a nail into it, then took something like a corkscrew and twisted that sharp object into my right leg. Then he poured gasoline on me and set me on fire. I went up like a candle, - testified 40-year-old Oksana Kuzmenko. She admitted that all the injuries and scars will undoubtedly remain with her for the rest of her life.
What is equally shocking as the way the 33-year-old man tried to take his ex-partner's life is the fact that he might soon be released from prison. Although he was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment, he filed a request stating that he is willing to go to the front and fight in Ukraine. It is, therefore, highly likely that he will be released.
