Orchids adorn many Canadian homes. They look beautiful and are notable for their long blooming period. However, caring for them is truly an art that not everyone can master. We advise on how you can easily change that.
How to take care of an orchid?
Orchids need the right environment to grow properly. An important element is a temperature ranging from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. That's why they feel great in home conditions. Not everyone knows that these plants are very sensitive to light. They love bright rooms, but you should ensure that sunlight does not fall directly on their leaves, thus minimizing the risk of burning.
Equally important is proper watering of the orchid. The water should be lukewarm and preferably settled. However, excess moisture should be avoided, as it can lead to root rot. Many gardeners advise placing the pot with the plant in a water container for a few minutes, allowing it to absorb as much as it needs.
Homemade orchid fertilizer
When orchids are provided with excellent conditions, they eagerly reward us with lush blooms. Unfortunately, they still do not produce new buds. In such cases, support in the form of fertilizer is worth considering. Instead of spending money on it, you can prepare it with products found at home.
First, you will need about half a litre of water. It’s good if it’s a bit settled so that some of the chlorine evaporates. Next, you only need to squeeze in about 5 drops of lemon juice and mix. Finally, just water the plant with the mixture and you're done. It is advisable to repeat this treatment at least once every 3-4 weeks.
The prepared solution will help lower the soil pH in which the orchid grows, which in turn will also facilitate the absorption of nutrients necessary for proper growth. This way, you can also slightly strengthen your plant, as lemon juice is truly rich in vitamins and minerals.
