Renewed US‑Russia dialogue sparks talk of sanction relief
Sanctions against Russia will be lifted "at some point," said US President Donald Trump during a press conference at the White House on Wednesday.
Trump's comments came after the resumption of contacts between the United States and Russia, including discussions about potentially ending the war in Ukraine and rebuilding mutual relations.
"No, we haven't lifted any sanctions on anybody… I guess it will be at some point, but right now, we haven't agreed to lift sanctions on anybody," said Trump.
The American president did not specify which sanctions might be lifted.
Meeting in Istanbul
On Thursday, talks between US and Russian delegations took place in Istanbul. They lasted over six hours. The meeting focused on rebuilding diplomatic relations.
As reported by Reuters, citing Russian media, no post-meeting press statements were made.
