Dmytro Kuleba, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, expressed in an interview with Politico his belief that Vladimir Putin will not accept Donald Trump's peace plan. Kuleba emphasized that Putin's objective is to destroy Ukraine and demonstrate that the West is incapable of defending itself.
Kuleba referred to Donald Trump's campaign promises in which he announced his intention to end the war in Ukraine quickly. Vice President J.D. Vance suggested that achieving peace might require Ukraine to relinquish some territories currently occupied by Russia.
The former minister highlighted that President Volodymyr Zelensky will not agree to such concessions due to constitutional constraints and the potential end of his political career.
Kuleba expressed concerns that if Trump's peace plan fails, it could result in the suspension of weapon and ammunition supplies to Ukraine, thereby weakening its defence capabilities.
Europe's reaction will be crucial at that point, and increased aid is not guaranteed. Kuleba believes that France, the United Kingdom, and the Nordic and Baltic countries will enhance their support, but Germany's support is less certain due to political instability.
The former minister also expressed disappointment that the West did not grasp the true significance of the war. "You cannot win a war where Russia clearly knows what its strategic goal is in every detail; [where] Ukraine knows what its strategic goal is in every detail; but [where] the West, without whom Ukraine cannot win, does not know what it is fighting for, but the West, without which Ukraine cannot win, does not know what it is fighting for," Kuleba stated in an interview with "Politico."
