Billionaire Elon Musk, owner of Tesla and the social media platform X, and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump were scheduled to speak at 8:00 PM on Monday Eastern Time.
The conversation began with more than a 40-minute delay, and Musk announced that there had been a "massive hacking attack". The platform's owner suggested that the attack "is evidence of significant opposition to people simply hearing what President Trump has to say".
The event was organized as a group voice chat. Several minutes before the scheduled start, users began reporting problems with joining the group.
In posts on platform X, Musk assured that the chat had been prepared for participation by up to eight million users. However, at the time when the technical issues occurred, only 220,000 viewers were trying to join.
