Trump halts military aid to Ukraine to push peace talks
U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to halt military aid to Ukraine in an effort to encourage them to pursue peace. A White House representative has confirmed this decision. Even the equipment already stationed in Poland will be stopped.
A White House representative confirmed that President Donald Trump has halted all military aid to Ukraine. This decision aims to ensure Ukraine actively participates in resolving the conflict.
The president has been clear that he is focused on peace. We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well. We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution, stated a White House representative, as quoted by the Polish Press Agency.
Fox News reported the suspension of aid prior to its official confirmation. The suspension includes all forms of aid, even arms that were on their way to Ukraine, including those in Poland. The decision was announced just a few hours after Trump publicly claimed he "hadn't even talked about it." The U.S. President criticized the Ukrainian president for not seeking peace, unlike Vladimir Putin.
During Tuesday's address to the joint session of Congress, Trump announced plans for an upcoming minerals agreement with Ukraine. Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick said that the agreement will soon be signed and that it "will lead to a strong, long-term economic partnership between the United States and Ukraine."
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized that a condition for signing the agreement is Ukraine's willingness to reach a peace agreement, added the Polish Press Agency.
The Trump administration has not passed any new military aid packages for Ukraine but remains open to the flow of arms as part of the last package approved by Joe Biden.
Trump still has the authority to transfer arms worth approximately $5.4 billion CAD to Kyiv. During Friday's meeting with President Zelensky, he declared that aid would continue, though he expressed hope it would not be necessary in large quantities.
