Kim Yo Jong warns of rising tensions as US carrier arrives
An influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un threatened on Tuesday to take action in response to the arrival of a U.S. aircraft carrier in South Korea and other U.S. military activities, which she described as confrontational.
Kim Yo Jong's warning suggests that North Korea is likely to intensify its weapons tests and maintain its confrontational stance towards the United States.
Although former President Donald Trump had declared a willingness to resume diplomatic dialogue with North Korea, Kim Yo Jong's warning indicates that Pyongyang does not intend to soften its position and may continue its weapons tests.
Kim Yo Jong accuses the US
In a statement conveyed by North Korean state media, Kim Yo Jong accused the United States of clearly displaying "the greatest hostility and confrontational stance" towards North Korea by deploying the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson and other powerful military units, as well as conducting joint maneuvers with South Korea this year.
