Russia bars Japan's foreign minister amid growing tensions
The Russian foreign ministry announced a ban on entry for Japan's Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwai. This move is Moscow's retaliation against Tokyo's sanctions related to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The ban also includes a group of eight other Japanese officials, as stated by the Russian foreign ministry.
Consequences for relations
Among those banned are the current and former Japanese ambassadors to Ukraine. Russia had previously imposed indefinite entry bans on Japanese officials and businesspeople. These actions are part of Moscow's broader policy in response to international sanctions.
Russia's decision further strains relations between Moscow and Tokyo.
