During a teleconference with the leaders of the G7 countries, President Zelensky highlighted that Ukraine has not yet received the air defence systems promised at the NATO summit in Washington in 2024. These systems were supposed to compensate for Ukraine's not receiving an invitation to the Alliance.

And after three years of full-scale war, you can all see the strength that Ukraine can bring to the Alliance—immediate strength, now, not decades away, added the President of Ukraine.

Ukraine and NATO: unfulfilled promises

Zelensky mentioned that if Ukraine were under NATO's "protective shield," Russian President Vladimir Putin might not have engaged in aggression.

After three years of full-scale war, the President of Ukraine emphasized that Ukraine's strength is evident and would contribute immediately to the Alliance, rather than requiring decades to make an impact.

Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine makes a significant contribution to regional security, which should be appreciated by the Alliance. His comments highlight frustration over delays in fulfilling promises that were supposed to bolster the country’s defence against Russian aggression.

The failure to deliver the promised air defence systems puts Ukraine in a difficult position, especially given the ongoing conflict with Russia. Zelensky is appealing for support and the fulfillment of earlier commitments, which would increase his country’s security.

Faced with these challenges, Ukraine continues to strengthen its position on the international stage, hoping for support from allies. President Zelensky remains steadfast in his efforts to ensure his country has the necessary means to defend against external threats.
