Donald Trump met with French President Emmanuel Macron at the White House on Monday. Their main topic was the war in Ukraine, which the US President declared he could end "within the next few weeks."

When asked whether Ukraine should surrender part of its territory to Russia as part of a peace agreement, Trump gave an uncertain response, indicating that the possibility remained open.

Macron also said he sees no problem with sending European troops to Ukraine. According to Him, European countries are ready for this. "We are ready and willing to provide these security guarantees," the French President said.

Macron, who was the first to come up with this proposal in the past, specified that European soldiers would only be a guarantee of a ceasefire and would not be deployed on the front line. "They would not be along the front line." They would not be part of the conflict. They would be there to ensure the respect of peace, he emphasized.

Trump on Putin: No problem with it

In Trump's opinion, Russian leader Vladimir Putin would accept European troops in Ukraine as part of a potential agreement ending the war.

"Yes, he would accept it," Trump said, quoted by Reuters. "I specifically asked him this question. He has no problem with it," he emphasized, referring to Putin.

Trump also announced that he might meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky this or next week to sign an agreement regarding minerals, which he claims is "very close" to being reached. About the meeting with Putin and the trip to Moscow, the American President said it would happen "in due time."

Putin himself conveyed that "he sees nothing wrong with European involvement in negotiations on Ukraine." He added that Russia and the USA could agree on reducing defence spending. He assessed that this would be a good idea.

The Russian leader also stated that the prepared agreement between the USA and Ukraine on minerals is not Russia's concern.
