Putin open to peace talks as Trump calls for EU leadership
On Monday, Vladimir Putin stated that he had no objections to European participation in negotiations regarding Ukraine. He also proposed that Russia and the United States could agree to cut defence spending, describing it as a positive idea.
Putin added that the proposed agreement between the USA and Ukraine concerning minerals is not a matter for Russia.
— Europe must take that central role in ensuring long-term security of Ukraine, which they want to do — US President Donald Trump said earlier after meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Washington, D.C.
According to Trump, Macron agrees that now is the right time, and perhaps the only opportunity, to end the war in Ukraine.
Trump emphasized that the most crucial step is to negotiate a ceasefire "as soon as possible," and ultimately to achieve "lasting peace."
