KFC-style battered oyster mushrooms
Oyster mushrooms can truly surprise you. They are great for sauces; you can fry them and add them to a burger, make soup with them, or turn them into delicious wings, just like those from a famous chicken chain.
KFC-style battered oyster mushrooms are perfect as a snack, a side dish, or a party dish. They can be served with fries or salad or eaten alone. I love this snack and often serve it to my guests. I don't know anyone who hasn't been impressed by them.
Ingredients:
- 250 grams oyster mushrooms
Marinade:
- 75 millilitres of vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon sweet paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried garlic
- 1 teaspoon cardamom
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon herb mixture
- 45 millilitres soy sauce.
Batter:
- 120 grams of all-purpose flour
- 40 grams cornmeal
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 250 millilitres milk.
Coating:
- 90 grams cornmeal
- 90 grams of all-purpose flour
- 250 grams oyster mushrooms.
Preparation method:
Step 1. I cut the oyster mushrooms in half. I pour the vegetable oil and soy sauce into a bowl, add the sweet paprika, dried garlic, ground ginger, cardamom, and herb mixture, and mix thoroughly. I add the chopped mushrooms to the marinade and mix well. I cover it with plastic wrap and marinate for 1-2 hours.
Step 2. I proceed to prepare the batter. I mix the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, and milk in a bowl until a thick batter forms without lumps. In a separate dish, I mix the ingredients for the coating.
Step 3. I dredge the marinated oyster mushroom pieces first in the batter and then in the coating, doing this thoroughly so they are well-covered with ingredients.
Step 4. I fry the oyster mushrooms in deep, well-heated oil until golden brown. After frying, I place them on a paper towel to remove excess oil and serve warm with my favourite dip. Enjoy!
