The Chilean skydiver had completed hundreds of jumps. The experienced 40-year-old attempted to deploy the reserve parachute, but it did not function properly. She fell to the ground.
Numerous rescue services quickly responded to the scene. Carolina Muñoz Kennedy survived the initial fall but suffered numerous severe injuries. In critical condition, she was transported to the hospital. Unfortunately, doctors were unable to save her. The 40-year-old passed away.
Investigators are examining how the tragedy occurred

Interestingly, skydiving is not considered the most risky sport in terms of death risk. Research conducted for Teton Gravity Research in 2022 indicates that only 1 out of 100,000 skydiving cases results in death.
Biking carries a similar risk (1 in 140,000). Other risky activities include playing American football (1 in 50,000 cases results in death) or kayaking (risk 1 in 10,000).
