Recipe for fried apples in jars

Making fried apples for the winter doesn't require many complicated ingredients or advanced culinary skills. All you need are a few basic products that you can find in your kitchen.

Ingredients:

  • 4 kg of apples,
  • 1 cup of sugar,
  • 1.5 teaspoons of cinnamon,
  • juice from 1 lemon,
  • 375-500 ml of water or apple juice,
  • jars.

Instructions:

  1. Preparing the apples: Peel the apples, remove the cores and cut them into small cubes. Drizzle with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  2. Frying the apples: Place the cut apples into a thick-bottomed pot. Add half a cup of water or apple juice and cook on low heat, stirring occasionally. Add the remaining water, sugar, and cinnamon when the apples begin to break down. Cook for another 30 minutes until you achieve the desired consistency.
  3. Sterilizing the jars: Thoroughly wash and scald the jars.
  4. Filling the jars: Transfer the hot apples into the sterilized jars. Screw on the lids tightly and set the jars upside down.
  5. Pasteurization (optional): If you want to ensure that the preserves stay fresh longer, pasteurize the jars in a pot of water.

The ready fried apples are best stored in a dark and cool place, such as a pantry or basement. This way, they will retain their freshness for many months. These preserves are extremely practical – you can reach for them at any time to prepare a delicious dessert or add them to your favourite dishes in just a few minutes.

How to use fried apples?

  • Apple pie: Add to the pie dough instead of fresh apples.
  • Pancakes: Serve with pancakes drizzled with maple syrup.
  • Yogurt: Add to natural yogurt to enhance the flavour.
  • Ice cream: Prepare delicious ice cream with the addition of fried apples.
  • Sandwiches: Spread on toast or whole grain bread.

Fried apples in jars are not only a delicious addition to many dishes but also a wonderful gift idea for loved ones. Homemade preserves are always more appreciated than store-bought products.
