The oven is an indispensable element of every kitchen, especially for home baking enthusiasts. Although it might seem that everyone knows how to operate it, many people are unaware of all its functions. One of these is the drawer located under the oven. It usually serves to store baking trays, but it can do much more.

Have you ever wondered what the proper use of the drawer under the oven is? Many people are unaware of its actual purpose, using it only to store baking trays. This is a common mistake.

What is the drawer under the oven for?

Most ovens have a drawer located under the appliance. We usually store baking accessories in it, such as trays, brushes, racks, and similar gadgets. This is a way to manage space, especially in small kitchens. However, it is worth knowing that this drawer, technically called a warming drawer, has a very important function. It can make cooking easier for many people.

As the name suggests, the warming drawer is used to heat and keep already prepared food warm. It can maintain a temperature range from about 40 to 75 degrees Celsius. Thanks to this, we can serve two hot dishes, prepared one after the other, simultaneously. The warming drawer is also perfect for heating dishes, allowing you to serve food on warm plates.

How to keep the drawer under the oven clean?

To fully utilize this function's potential, it is important to keep the drawer under the oven clean. This is crucial because it comes into direct contact with food. Regular cleaning of the oven and the drawer will help maintain the dishes' taste and proper hygiene. However, strong detergents are not recommended.

Ideal solutions are home remedies like a 1:1 ratio of water and vinegar. It is enough to wipe the inside of the drawer with a cloth soaked in this mixture. In the case of tougher dirt, such as dried grease, you can use baking soda. Just sprinkle the dirt with soda, moisten it with water, leave it for a few minutes, and then wipe it with warm water. In this way, the dirt should disappear easily.
