Do you enjoy discovering new flavours in the kitchen? If so, try baking some British scones. They are delightful in both appearance and taste. Here's a recipe that will surely impress you and your loved ones.

Today, I'll take you on a small culinary journey to British cuisine. My good friend, who lives in the United Kingdom, knows I love experimenting in the kitchen. She encouraged me to try a recipe for the iconic Scottish-originated scones.

Scones, as they are called, are very popular among the British, who usually serve them with afternoon tea. These scones can be prepared in both sweet and savoury versions. Today, I want to focus on the latter. Combining the crumbly scones with zucchini, bacon, and cheddar cheese is worth combining.

English scones have won the hearts of my whole family. They will win yours too

Ingredients:

Dough:

  • 400 g all-purpose flour,
  • 60 g chilled butter,
  • 2 eggs,
  • 175 ml buttermilk,
  • 1 teaspoon salt.

Additions:

  • 280 g smoked bacon,
  • 2 small zucchini,
  • 1 teaspoon salt,
  • 140 g grated cheddar cheese,
  • 1 beaten egg.

Preparation:

Step 1. I start making the British snack by preparing the savoury additions. To do this, I cut the smoked bacon into smaller pieces and fry it in a pan.

Step 2. Next, I prepare the zucchini. I grate the vegetables, lightly sprinkle them with salt, and set them aside for 20 minutes. After that, I thoroughly drain the excess water from the zucchini.

Step 3. It's time to prepare the scone base, which consists of: flour, chilled butter, salt, and a mixture of eggs and buttermilk.

Step 4. Soon, the savory additions also go into the bowl: grated cheddar cheese, previously prepared bacon, and pieces of zucchini.

Step 5. I knead all the ingredients into a uniform dough and then shape it into a large, round, flat. Finally, I cut it into pieces, creating small triangles.

Step 6. I place the prepared pieces on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. I brush each triangle with a beaten egg using a kitchen brush. Then, the snacks go into the preheated oven for 25 minutes. During this time, the oven should be set to 200 degrees Celsius.
