Ukraine's precise strike decimates Russian 810th Brigade barracks
Ukrainians used GMLRS rockets from M142 HIMARS systems to strike a gathering of Russian soldiers from the 810th Brigade in the city of Ivanovskoye in the Kursk region. This article explains what the Ukrainians deployed and why they are intensely targeting Russian soldiers from the 810th Brigade.
The Ukrainians launched a missile attack on the troops of the 810th Brigade who were stationed in Ivanovskoye, approximately 70 kilometres from Sudzha. The Ukrainians are systematically trying to eliminate the Russian 810th Brigade, whose soldiers have recently boasted, among other things, about executing Ukrainian prisoners.
The video below shows the impact of the strike on buildings used as barracks, and reports from Russian Telegram channels mention a significant number of casualties. This is corroborated by the Russians who survived by sheltering in the building's basement.
GMLRS missiles — A precise blow to Russians from the USA
The Russians were targeted with GMLRS rockets, which have a range of approximately 80 kilometres, and judging by the extent of the destruction, the Ukrainians likely used more of the M31A1/A2 variants with a 90-kilogram conventional high-explosive warhead.
These warheads contain 23 kilograms of explosives, and the fuse can operate in various modes. In the Ivanovskoye attack, the delayed detonation mode was likely used, causing the rockets to penetrate the building's ceiling and explode inside.
Each rocket is equipped with an inertial and satellite navigation module, allowing it to hit the target with an accuracy of less than 4 metres. It is noteworthy that Russians have learned to disrupt GPS, but at a distance of around 80 kilometres, the cumulative navigation error over time remains relatively small.
Moreover, a deviation of a few metres in the case of a GMLRS rocket warhead is not yet a significant issue as it is with M982 Excalibur artillery shells. It is important to note that the GMLRS rocket warhead contains 23 kilograms of explosives, whereas the Excalibur shell contains only about 5 kilograms. Consequently, the Russian barracks in Ivanovskoye were nearly obliterated.
