Russians in shock over Ukrainian attack: YouTuber's insights

Vyacheslav Zarutskiy, a YouTuber originally from Russia, claims that Russians are only now reacting to the Ukrainian attack in the Kursk region as if they couldn't believe it happened. "Everyone is asking why the Ukrainians did it," admits Zarutskiy. He adds that people have started to panic.

YouTuber Vyacheslav Zarutskiy commented on the recent events in the Kursk region in his latest video and revealed how Russians reacted to the Ukrainian attack.

According to Zarutskiy, comments about the situation are only now appearing online, including on Russian-language channels on YouTube.

The authorities said we would wait three days and everything would be fine, but it's been three weeks now – notes the YouTuber.

Russians do not hide their surprise. Interestingly, they are surprised not only by the sluggishness of the Russian authorities but also by the fact that Ukrainians decided to attack. – Why did they attack us? What did we do to them? – Russians are wondering, according to Zarutskiy. They are also disappointed that the military could not protect them.

Zarutskiy asked his family and friends what they thought about the war entering Russian territory. As he describes, panic has started in the country, and people who formerly supported Putin are now split "half and half."

The first group says that something must have changed, something happened, (...) but we need to keep fighting, we need more soldiers. The Ministry of Defence made a mistake, but we will find those responsible (...) and we will keep fighting – explains Zarutskiy.

These Russians still believe in victory. On the other hand, the second group, according to the YouTuber, believes that the state can no longer do anything and doubts the sincerity of the authorities.

Ukrainians attacked the Kursk region. What do Russians think?

One of Zarutskiy's friends, who lived near the Kursk region, sold his apartment after the Ukrainian attack because – as the YouTuber convinces – "he truly believed that the Ukrainians would attack the city of Kursk." Previously, the man supported Putin's actions and did not believe that Ukrainians would attack his territory. He has since changed his mind.

Another friend of the YouTuber posted an advertisement wanting to sell his apartment. He made this decision because he lives in a tall building in Tatarstan and was afraid that a drone might hit his apartment block in the future.

Speaking about Russians' reactions, the YouTuber referred to events from a few hours ago, when Ukrainians attacked Saratov and Engels, from where bombers take off to drop missiles on Ukrainian cities. Zarutskiy points out that Russian authorities try to downplay the problem, insisting that "drones were shot down and only a few accidentally hit buildings in Saratov."

According to Zarutskiy, Russians are no longer sure if Putin can protect them. – Everyone is waiting, because it is very likely that there will be another military mobilization – explains the YouTuber.
