Ukrainian offensive in Kursk leaves thousands evacuated
Ukrainians are conducting an attack in the Kursk region. Americans are currently refraining from commenting on the situation. "We are trying to better understand what they are doing, what their goals are, and what their strategy is," said National Security Council spokesman John Kirby at a press conference.
Since August 6, Ukraine has been conducting an operation in the Russian Kursk region. Dozens of villages have been occupied, and fighting is taking place in the Sudzha area. Russia had to evacuate about 76,000 residents.

"We are in contact with our Ukrainian counterparts and are trying to better understand what they are doing, what their goals are, what their strategy is," he said.
He emphasized that he would be able to provide more information after discussions when Americans have a better understanding of what Ukrainians are planning.
"No changes in our policy"
Kirby was also asked about the use of American weaponry. There are recordings suggesting the use of HIMARS in the Kursk region.
"There are no changes in our policy regarding American weapons and their use," he said. He recalled that Ukraine could use the weapons for border attacks.
Kirby added that the USA would provide Ukraine with Stinger missiles and ammunition worth approximately 170 million CAD. This is another tranche of the aid package approved by Congress in April 2024.
