When Vladimir Putin initiated the war in Ukraine, he was confident of achieving a swift victory. However, this foreseen quick win did not materialize as the invaded nation mounted a significant resistance. This oversight has revealed a major miscalculation by the Russian leader.
Despite Russia capturing parts of southeastern Ukraine, Kyiv and the vast majority of Ukrainian territories remain outside the aggressor's control.
The fighting continues. Russia is exerting pressure, while Ukrainians are fiercely defending themselves. Yet, the question of when the war will end remains pressing. According to the latest reports, Russia has set a date by which it aims to conclude the conflict in Ukraine.
This information was disclosed by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), which analyzed remarks by General Kyrylo Budanov.
When will the war in Ukraine end? A deadline has been set
The institute suggests that the targeted year is 2026. By this time, Vladimir Putin aims to secure a victory in Ukraine. He anticipates that, within less than two years, Russia will face a significant economic downturn and difficulties replenishing military losses.
Russia seeks to achieve a decisive victory in Ukraine before 2026, before medium- and long-term economic constraints and issues with generating military force significantly diminish Russia's ability to conduct the war - reported the American think tank, cited by "Super Express".
Budanov recently highlighted that Russia places great importance on 2025, considering it the final year it will have a chance to solidify its status as a global superpower.
