EA greenlights "The Sims" movie with Margot Robbie producing

Electronic Arts has officially confirmed that a "The Sims" movie is in development. What's more, it will include "a lot of lore" that only players are familiar with. Margot Robbie will produce the film, which will be directed by Kate Herron ("Loki").

Talk about a movie set in the "The Sims" universe had been circulating in the background for some time. Back then, one of the unofficial pieces of information was a leak that Margot Robbie would serve as the producer. The rumours have indeed been confirmed, and on September 17, Electronic Arts revealed that work on the film adaptation of the game is underway.

"Thanks to the collaboration with well-known Hollywood names, this exciting new chapter of 'The Sims' will bring the magic to millions of fans," said Laura Miele, president of EA Entertainment. "This is a testament to the enduring power of the series, which has attracted over 500 million players for a quarter of a century. We are committed to innovating throughout the 'The Sims' universe to inspire all generations of Simmers [players - ed.]," added Miele in an interview with "Variety".

What do players expect from the upcoming film? A story from Pleasantview or Strangetown from "The Sims 2" and, of course, the iconic objects and characters from the game that have become a permanent part of pop culture. Disappearing pool ladders, the Cowplant, woohoo in various places, the handbag-wielding Mrs. Crumplebottom... The Sims lore is deeper than it seems at first glance.

What happened to Bella Goth? Will the "The Sims" movie provide an answer?

Whether "The Sims" will hit the big screen or be distributed through streaming services is unknown. Regardless, fans of the game are expected to be satisfied. EA Vice President and General Manager of "The Sims" series Kate Gorman promises that the production will deliver a lot of emotions and deepen the storyline known from the simulator. Gorman promises that experiences from "The Sims" will be brought to life. Will it be alien abductions, male pregnancies, betrayals, being left at the altar, the aggressive Cowplant from the university, or nervous breakdowns? It's still unknown.

Fans of "The Sims" series are running an extensive campaign on social media to persuade the producers to create the movie in Simlish. "It's great fun. It's a great idea and we will definitely talk about it," remarked Gorman.
