Racing against the clock is a fairly common occurrence in the kitchen, especially when you're cooking for guests coming from afar. In such moments, it's worth having tried and true recipes for quick snacks at hand. Today, I want to show you one of them—made with puff pastry.

Puff pastry, I admit, is a food product that I often reach for. And I don't use it solely for preparing sweet treats. This clever invention (dating back to the 17th century, by the way) allows for the creation of interesting snacks in both sweet and savory flavors. And don't make me choose between the two, because that's a challenge I couldn't meet.

Once, I decided that I liked puff pastry so much that I should start making a homemade version. If you want to do the same, click here for a tried and true recipe. If not, stay calm, I understand. After all, as I already mentioned, it's about being really fast. So, to the point: an express snack made with puff pastry. How to prepare it? It's very simple. Besides the main ingredient, you only need cheese and one egg. Tasty rolls will be made in no time. It literally takes just 15-20 minutes!

  1. Roll out the dough. The optimal thickness here is about 0.5 cm (1/5 inch).
  2. Crack the egg into a bowl and whisk it. Then use a brush to spread it over the surface of the puff pastry.
  3. Grate the cheese and spread it over the surface of the dough. Leave an empty strip at the top to seal everything.
  4. Roll up the rolls. If you've ever made homemade sushi, you'll find this a breeze.
  5. Cut the prepared rolls into pieces and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush them once more with the beaten egg.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes at 200°C (390°F). Done!
