Many of us dream of a dense, soft, and intensely green lawn. Such an effect requires year-round work, including feeding, mowing, and watering. Sometimes, despite many efforts, mushrooms grow on the lawn. They usually appear after rainfall, at the end of summer or the beginning of fall. How do you get rid of mushrooms from the lawn? Learn a simple way.
Where do mushrooms on the lawn come from?
At the turn of summer and fall, mushrooms such as roadside mushrooms or parasol mushrooms can appear on the lawn. Although they don't look very good, they pose no threat to the grass or other plants.
Their presence indicates an excess of certain elements in the soil. In such a case, it is worth aerating the lawn and reducing soil feeding with fertilizers high in phosphorus.
The problem begins when lamella mushrooms appear on the grass, such as the common ink cap. This species creates so-called fairy rings, which might look attractive, but their growth can cause serious damage to the grass.
Spread them on the lawn. You'll forget about mushrooms
Mushrooms on the lawn usually appear after a few days of heavy rain. You can get rid of them easily. Garden stores offer many antifungal products. Most of them are based on copper ions. Although this ingredient is effective, it can harm other plants.
If you prefer natural methods, use garden lime or vinegar and water. You can buy garden lime at any construction or garden store. Depending on the quantity, you will spend from $5 to $16. For every square metre of lawn, sprinkle approximately 50 grams of lime, then water the soil.
Do you want to get rid of individual specimens? Mix water with vinegar at a ratio of 4:1, and spray the prepared mixture on the mushrooms, being careful not to spread it on the lawn or other plants. Also, remember to rake and clean the grass regularly. Make sure the soil is well-drained. Use fertilizers with a high nitrogen content. Stick to these few simple rules, and you will prevent the growth of mushrooms.
