A well-maintained green lawn, soft as a carpet, is probably the dream of everyone with a backyard garden. Although maintaining a lawn is relatively easy, incorrect care will lead to regret.
What is proper watering, mowing, and fertilizing the lawn worth knowing? If we are serious about garden care, we should have the following information at our fingertips.
Want to have a nice lawn? Remember this
Regular mowing, removing weeds, and watering are the three pillars of maintenance when we talk about taking care of the lawn. A green turf will retain its density if we mow it at least once a week during summer. We reduce the frequency to once every two weeks in the spring and fall. In the summer, it is worth keeping the blades of grass at a height between 5 and 10 centimetres. In this way, the lawn will be less prone to browning from the heat.
We don't overwater a young lawn, as this will make the root system shallow. We remove weeds by hand using a weeder or a special spatula. Before mowing, it is also worth raking the lawn to "lift" the weeds so the mower can capture them.
Lawn care during a heatwave
When it’s scorching hot outside, and the rain isn’t coming, increasing the frequency of watering the lawn is necessary. However, this task should be performed skillfully. In the summer, we water the grass at least three times a week using a diffused stream of water.
We avoid the most common mistake of watering the green turf during the day. We perform summer watering either early morning or late evening when temperatures are still or again tolerable.
