Sunlight may not be kind to plants, including grass. For this reason, it is essential to maintain its proper moisture level. A simple way to check if the grass needs more water is to perform a basic test.
How to care for your lawn in the summer?
Although the vacation season is an excellent time to rest, plants require constant care, especially in summer, when high temperatures and periods of drought can negatively affect flowers, shrubs, and lawns. To avoid damaging them, plants should be watered regularly.
Watering the lawn generously in the morning and evening is recommended, as well as avoiding watering during the hottest part of the day, as the water will evaporate quickly, and the plants may get burned. Additionally, mulching, which involves leaving shredded grass blades on the lawn surface, is recommended to help retain moisture in the soil, reduce the growth of weeds, and create a natural fertilizer. We suggest several methods to check the lawn's moisture.
How to check the lawn's moisture?
One of these methods is a simple trick using a screwdriver. While it may seem unusual, it is highly effective. Stick the screwdriver into the lawn.
- If the screwdriver quickly goes into the soil to a depth of 15-18 cm, the grass is sufficiently watered and does not need additional water.
- If the screwdriver stops earlier, it is a sign that the soil is dry and needs watering.
Limit mowing to a minimum to retain moisture in the grass. Grass cut too short will dry out faster and look like straw. Moreover, the mower generates additional heat, which can also affect the condition of the lawn. The best solution is to use an automatic sprinkler, which will ensure optimal watering of the lawn.
