"We understand that Israel is conducting targeted strikes against military targets in Iran as an exercise of self-defence and in response to Iran’s ballistic missile attack against Israel on October 1st. We would refer you to the Israeli government for more information on their operation," said Sean Savett, spokesperson for the White House National Security Council.
He also emphasized that the United States is not involved in the Israeli operation.
According to White House sources, Israel informed President Joe Biden's administration about the planned retaliatory attack.
Attacks on military targets
Around 11:00 PM Eastern Time, the Israeli government issued a statement about the conclusion of the attack on Iran. "All Israeli aircraft returned safely to their base after the mission was completed and its objectives reached," the statement reads.
The Israel Defense Forces, confirming the attack on Iran on platform X, described the action as "precise attacks on military targets" in Iran, although it is unclear which specific sites were targeted. Witnesses report at least five explosions in Tehran and the nearby city of Karaj.
In recent weeks, high-ranking American officials, including President Joe Biden and his administration, have clearly expressed their position regarding possible Israeli retaliation against Iran.
According to a source close to Biden's administration, they emphasized that Israel's response should not be excessively escalating or impact the global economy.
