The previous Ipsos poll indicated a four-point lead for the Democratic candidate. After the debate, respondents surveyed by Ipsos overwhelmingly (52%) considered Kamala Harris to be the winner of Tuesday's clash in Philadelphia, while only 24% said that Donald Trump won. These results were consistent with other studies conducted after the debate.
Nevertheless, the Ipsos poll does not suggest that the candidates' clash had a fundamental impact on the presidential race. In the latest nationwide survey, taking into account voters who are likely to go to the polls, Harris secures 47% of the vote, while Trump has 42%. This lead is greater than the margin of error (3%), but only 1 percentage point higher than a similar survey from the end of August.
Other studies published after the debate indicate a similar lack of significant changes. In a survey by the right-wing tabloid "New York Post," conducted by Leger, Harris leads Trump by 3 percentage points, but her lead over Trump decreased by 1 percentage point compared to the August survey conducted after the Democratic convention in Chicago.
Meanwhile, in another poll by SoCal, commissioned by a Republican-affiliated centre, Harris increased her lead by 1 percentage point compared to the previous survey from August.
