On Sunday, U.S. President Joe Biden announced he would not seek re-election. At the same time, he endorsed his Vice President Kamala Harris, affirming that she should be the Democratic Party's candidate.
Although Harris has not yet been officially nominated, polling organizations have already started their research. According to Friday's survey from "The Wall Street Journal," Donald Trump currently holds a mere two percent advantage over Kamala Harris.
Minimal difference
In the poll conducted among a thousand registered voters, 49% indicated they would vote for Donald Trump in the November elections, while 47% expressed support for Kamala Harris. The difference between the candidates fell within the margin of error.
The poll showed a narrower gap between the Democratic and Republican candidates than in early July when Joe Biden was still a candidate. At that time, Trump led the incumbent president by six percentage points.
Currently, there is no clear front-runner in the campaign. According to experts, much will depend on whom Harris chooses as her Vice President. Many analysts suggest that if she makes the right choice, she could demonstrate her commitment to centrist policies. Selecting a candidate from one of the "swing states" would give her a better chance of winning over local voters.
