Explosions and drone strikes disrupt Russian aviation hub
On the night from Monday to Tuesday, explosions were heard in the sky over Engels in the Saratov region of Russia. A fuel depot that had been burning for several days was shelled once again.
Around three in the morning Eastern Time, witnesses heard several explosions in the city. Regional Governor Roman Busargin reported that the drone attack caused damage to an industrial enterprise in Engels.
"As a result of the UAV attack, there was damage at an industrial enterprise in Engels. Emergency and operational services are working in extended mode," he reported.
Engels is where the Russian strategic aviation base is located, which has previously been attacked multiple times by Ukrainians.
Rescue services are operating at the site. Earlier, witnesses reported plumes of smoke rising.
Due to the attack, airports in Kazan, Kaluga, Saratov, and Tambov introduced temporary restrictions on arriving and departing flights.
The warehouse has been burning for several days
The warehouse has been burning since January 8. The regional governor admitted that "drone debris damaged one of the enterprises in Engels." This is where the Russian strategic aviation base is located, which has previously been attacked multiple times by Ukrainians.
