Ukrainian forces gain ground with strategic M2 Bradley deployment
During a battle in the Kursk region, involving a charge by the Ukrainian M2 Bradley, Russian soldiers and war correspondents, with no other means of survival, sought refuge in the basement of a nearby church. The M2 Bradley is among the most valuable NATO vehicles supplied to Ukraine by the United States, and it has proven effective even on Russian soil.
According to Forbes analyst David Axe, the area around the church in Pogrebki was the site of one of the largest battles in the Kursk region in early January 2025. Clashes between Ukrainian and Russian forces persisted nearly the entire day, involving the notable M2 Bradley, likely belonging to the Ukrainian 47th Mechanized Brigade.
Bold charge by M2 Bradley
"Ukrainian Armed Forces infantry is trying to take out our fighters," reported a Russian blogger on Telegram.
The 47th Mechanized Brigade has gained recognition for its repeated actions in the Kursk region. It is reputed to be highly trained and equipped with older and newer Western heavy equipment. Recordings show their use of vehicles like the M2 Bradley and Abrams tanks on Russian soil.
During the battle near the church in Pogrebki, the dramatic moment came when the M2 Bradley appeared, its crew charging at the Russians. David Axe reports that the main gun used in this infantry fighting vehicle is the M242 Bushmaster automatic cannon, with a 25 mm caliber.

The range of this weapon is about 2 kilometres, but its firing rate, reaching 200 rounds per minute, is equally significant. Moreover, the M2 Bradley crew has access to a 7.62 mm caliber machine gun and a dual launcher for TOW anti-tank missiles, designed to engage enemy armoured vehicles at a distance of up to just under 4 kilometres.
The M2 Bradley is reputed to be a vehicle that saves Ukrainian lives due to its above-average armour, providing a high level of protection to the crew inside, which also facilitates bold offensive operations. There have been instances where the M2 Bradley successfully engaged not only against transporters and IFVs but also against Russian tanks, including the top-tier T-90M Proryv.
