Ukrainian drone strikes target key fuel depot in Russia
Ukrainian drones attacked a fuel depot in the city of Engels in the Saratov region of western Russia. According to information from independent Russian channels, aviation fuel for the Russian strategic aviation base in this city is stored in this depot.
The Russian Ministry of Defence claims that during the night, air defence shot down 32 Ukrainian drones, with the most - 11 - over the Saratov region.
Reportedly, four drones were shot down over the Kursk and Rostov regions, three over the Belgorod and Bryansk regions, two over the Krasnodar Krai, one over the Volgograd region, and four over the waters of the Sea of Azov.
The Governor of the Saratov region, Roman Busargin, admitted that "drone debris damaged one of the enterprises in the city of Engels." This is where the Russian strategic aviation base is located, which has been attacked multiple times by Ukrainians.
Attack on the fuel base for the "Bears"?
Earlier, Russian strategic bombers Tu-95 (NATO codename - "Bear") were stationed at this base. However, after several attacks on this airport and the damage to at least one "Bear," the Russians reportedly moved these machines to the Olenya base beyond the Arctic Circle.
The governor could not hide the fact that the city was attacked. Residents raised alarms on their Telegram channels about a series of loud explosions. He also couldn't hide that a massive fire broke out due to this attack. However, he did not admit that it was an aviation fuel depot used by the nearby Russian airbase.
Nevertheless, the city's residents and independent Russian channels such as Astra and BAZA reported what was burning, which, using geolocation, confirmed that it concerned fuel depots for the airbase.
The drone attack took place around 8 p.m. Eastern Time. By 2 a.m. Eastern Time, despite firefighters' efforts, the base was still burning, and a column of dark smoke rose over the city.
