The fire at the famous Chatuchak weekend market in Bangkok broke out on Tuesday, June 11 in the morning, in the section where animals are sold. The fire quickly spread, covering an area of about 1,300 square meters.

Firefighters managed to control the fire within an hour. However, during this time about a thousand pets died, including cats and dogs, snakes, birds, and rabbits, which were kept in cages and locked in stores.

According to the BBC, stall owners reported that the screams of animals woke them up.

- Suddenly, thick smoke filled the air, making it impossible to breathe - one of the women says.

More photos and videos are hitting the web, showing the burning market and what remains.

Some shopkeepers live on the market premises, but it is not known how many were there when the fire broke out. The fire destroyed about 100 stalls, but according to the authorities, there were no human casualties.
