At the zoo in Curitiba, in the state of Paraná, there was an incident that could have ended tragically. A man jumped into a pond with hippos. Fortunately, the animals did not show aggression.

Recordings of the event, shared by tourists, show how the hippos curiously observed the man swimming nearby.

He wanted to "play" with the monkeys

The videos show a man, wearing a soccer jersey with the number 10, swimming in the pond and shouting something towards the hippos. After a moment, he runs toward other animals.

According to Brazilian Radio Band, before jumping over the fence, the man announced to tourists that he intended to "play" with the monkeys.

In the video shared online, the man is seen running up to one of the monkeys and trying to make contact with it. The animal began jumping and approaching the "intruder".

"There was an interaction between the man and the animals, but he did not touch any of them" - summarized Radio Band.

The zoo's security guards managed to get the man out of the animal territory "safe and sound". Then, under police escort, he was sent to one of the local hospitals for psychiatric evaluation.
