Moscow targets UK, NATO in looming cyberattack threat
Russia is prepared to execute a series of cyberattacks on the United Kingdom and other NATO member states to undermine support for Ukraine, reports "The Telegraph." British minister Pat McFadden cautions that Moscow "won't think twice," warning that an electronic attack could "turn the lights off for millions of people."
Putin is ready to paralyze the United Kingdom with cyberattacks, writes the Sunday edition of "The Telegraph," citing comments from British Minister and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Pat McFadden. He is set to publicly warn of potential cyberattacks and preparations from Russia at a NATO conference on Monday.
According to the British politician, Vladimir Putin is ready and capable of launching a "destabilizing and debilitating" electronic attack on the United Kingdom and other NATO member states to weaken their support for Ukraine.
McFadden emphasizes that Moscow "won't think twice" about exploiting defence vulnerabilities to attack British businesses, and Alliance countries cannot "underestimate" the threat.
"Military hard-power is one thing. But cyber war can be destabilising and debilitating. With a cyber attack, Russia can turn the lights off for millions of people. It can shut down the power grids. This is the hidden war Russia is waging with Ukraine," the newspaper quotes excerpts from McFadden's speech.
