A 10-year-old student from Shawano County was struggling with fractions as part of his homework. Unable to solve them, he called 911 to seek help.
The Shawano County Sheriff's Office shared on social media that the dispatcher received a call from the boy requesting educational assistance. The student explained that his family "wasn't very good at math" either, prompting him to call the police for support.
He called the police because he couldn't cope with fractions
The math homework was challenging not just for the 10-year-old but also for others. The dispatcher initially informed the boy that 911 was not intended for educational issues but decided to assist him during a free moment. However, the complex fractions also posed a challenge for her.
Since it was a quiet evening, the dispatcher sent the deputy sheriff, who was close to home, to help the boy. The officer acknowledged in the report, "Personally, I am also not overly proficient when it comes to math," yet he chose to assist.
The deputy sheriff successfully worked through the problems involving decimal numbers. After verifying the solutions, the ten-year-old was reminded that the emergency number should only be used when life or health is at risk.
