Travelling by airplane requires going through security checks. It turns out that even the most rigorous checks can be ineffective, as shown by the example of a young Norwegian who managed to board a plane without a ticket but with a knife in his pocket.

The situation at Munich Airport reveals that security checks and implemented measures are not always practical. This was proven by the young Norwegian, who managed twice to fly without a ticket but with a knife in his pocket. As reported by "Rzeczpospolita", encouraged by the success of his two previous aerial escapades, he attempted to fly as a stowaway for the third time, this time from Hamburg. He was caught only because all the seats on the plane were occupied.

It is not known how the man managed to get through the gates, which open after scanning a special code from the boarding pass. Authorities suspect that the Norwegian might have moved very close to a passenger with such a card and slipped in behind them before the gate closed. However, these are suppositions that a police investigation can confirm.

It also remains a mystery how the man managed to bring a knife on board, which should have been detected during the screening process. The young Norwegian will face charges for being in an area of the airport where he had no right to be and for travelling without a ticket.

Following the incidents, Munich Airport authorities are trying to determine why security checks failed and are announcing stricter procedures. New cameras, among other measures, are expected to be introduced. The police are also examining the airport’s procedures.

Serious problems at airports

The situation with the stowaway passenger has not escaped the attention of Andreas Rosskopf, chairman of the German police union. In a comment for Bild, he said: "In my entire career, I have not had a case like this."

Climate activists are cutting through fences and gluing themselves to runways, and now a man without a ticket is flying around Europe — added Rosskopf.
