Windows 10 retakes lead in Steam as gamers resist upgrade
Windows 10 has regained the top spot in Steam's statistics. In August, for the first time since its launch, Windows 11 took the lead. Of course, the differences are slight, but in September, Windows 10 again had a larger share. Over 48.6% of gamers were using it.

Windows 10 and 11 are basically "neck and neck" in Steam's statistics, as noted by the service Neowin. The much older Windows 10 has once again reached the top spot, which may come as a surprise, considering that the system will lose security support in 2025, and Windows 11 has been on the market for a few years. You can upgrade to Windows 11 for free from Ten—however, the problem usually lies in user reluctance or hardware requirement issues.
It is important to remember that these usually boil down to the presence of a TPM 2.0 module on the computer's motherboard. Besides this, Windows 11's requirements do not differ significantly from those of Windows 10. Compatibility details can be checked using the PC Health Check application.
The remaining statistics of players using the Steam application also reveal other most popular parameters of the used computers. We learn that the most common gamer uses a computer that:
- has a processor with a clock speed from 2.3 to 2.7 gigahertz,
- is equipped with 16 gigabytes of RAM,
- has a GeForce RTX 3060 card with 8 gigabytes of video memory,
- has a total disk capacity of over 1 terabyte,
- uses a primary monitor with a Full HD resolution.
