Why your sink hygiene is just as important as your dishes

Even if you have a dishwasher, hand washing is unavoidable. Particularly during holiday preparations, when you urgently need a specific dish, it's definitely quicker to wash it in the sink. However, that's not where the task ends. Afterwards, you also need to take care of the sink and the drain.

Hand washing dishes is an activity that is impossible to completely give up, even if you have a dishwasher. Some items, such as wooden cutting boards or copper dishes, require a gentler approach, as they are easily damaged. After completing the washing, one of the most important habits should be to thoroughly clean the sink.

Washing dishes is not the end

Do you sometimes leave dirty dishes in the sink? All the more reason to ensure it's cleaned regularly. Otherwise, bacteria and food residues can accumulate, potentially leading to clogged drains in the long run. It's crucial to tidy up the sink itself after washing dishes, although sometimes the temptation to rest is greater.

How to take care of the sink?

Maintaining a clean sink ensures an aesthetic appearance and pleasant smell and protects against bacteria. A neglected sink can become more unhygienic than a toilet, so superficial actions are insufficient. It's worth trying proven methods that help eliminate residues and unpleasant odours.

Use baking soda

One home method for cleaning the sink is a mixture of one tablespoon of baking soda and half a cup of lemon juice. Once this simple paste is applied to the sink, it should remain for a few minutes before being wiped clean. After everything, rinsing thoroughly with water will remove all impurities.

Instead of stacking dirty dishes in the sink, storing them in a special basket on the countertop is better. Furthermore, it's advisable to start washing with the least dirty dishes.
