Wildfires in California devastate city and personal properties

A Hollywood actress mourns the destruction of a church that was a cornerstone of the local community, now completely burned down.
For two days, wildfires have been raging in California. Thousands of people have been evacuated, with nowhere to return, and have lost their belongings, often including their workplaces. The media reports on wealthy, well-known individuals who have also lost their properties. However, they remain in a much better position than the average person. Jamie Lee Curtis posted a photo on Instagram of a destroyed church in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles.
"This is the church in the Palisades that had a beautiful Sunday school and school and was a gorgeous house of worship and is the building that I got sober in 25 years ago. I think of all of the souls who came there for comfort and solace and all the baptisms and funerals and weddings and the thousands of people who reclaimed their lives through Sobriety. Also, the women's club in the Palisades where I met many sober people. Both are gone. Tough times. We will persevere. God bless you all.," the actress wrote.
Jamie Lee Curtis openly discusses her battle with alcoholism
The Oscar and two-time Golden Globe winner has been sober for over 20 years. She does not shy away from discussing this topic. It's known that her family has faced issues with substance abuse. Her father, actor Tony Curtis, struggled with addiction to alcohol, cocaine, and heroin. Her half-brother Nicholas Curtis died from a heroin overdose in 1994. She revealed in 2018 that she had been addicted to opioids for 10 years.
Her struggle with opioids began in 1989 when she underwent plastic surgery, and her doctor prescribed her painkillers. She took them in large quantities, stole pills from others, and was so discreet that no one noticed. Matthew Perry faced similar struggles before his death.
In 1999, Curtis attended her first meeting for addicts. "Getting sober remains my single greatest accomplishment ... bigger than my husband, bigger than both of my children and bigger than any work, success, failure. Anything," the actress emphasized at the time.
