Bananas are one of the most popular fruits in the world. They are valued not only for their sweet taste but also for their numerous health benefits. Rich in vitamins and minerals, they are an excellent energy source and help maintain proper blood pressure levels.

Although eating bananas is healthy, knowing when to consume them is important. There are moments throughout the day when it is not the best idea.

Don't eat bananas for breakfast

Many people reach for bananas for breakfast, thinking they are a healthy start to the day. However, experts warn that eating them on an empty stomach may not be the best choice. These fruits have a very high natural fructose content, which makes up about 25 percent of their composition.

When we eat bananas on an empty stomach, their natural fructose is quickly absorbed, rapidly increasing insulin levels. Shortly after, blood sugar levels drop, which can cause feelings of fatigue and hunger. This effect can be particularly disadvantageous for people trying to maintain steady energy throughout the day.

Moreover, eating them on an empty stomach may irritate the intestines, which is unfavourable for people with sensitive digestive systems.

Eating bananas is also not recommended for people with diabetes due to their high fructose content. It is also worth skipping this fruit when we have a cold. Bananas can increase mucus production, which may exacerbate coughing attacks.

The best time to eat bananas

Although bananas are not ideal for breakfast, they are an excellent choice for dinner. Eating bananas an hour or two before sleep can positively affect sleep quality.

Bananas are rich in tryptophan, an amino acid that supports the production of melatonin - the hormone that regulates the body's circadian rhythm. Melatonin helps with falling asleep and maintaining deep sleep.
