Hand-washing dishes can often be tiring and time-consuming, so a dishwasher proves invaluable in the kitchen. It allows us to manage time and water usage efficiently.
However, it is worth remembering that not all dishes and kitchen utensils are suitable for washing in the dishwasher. Putting them in the device can lead to faster wear and tear and even damage, which consequently generates additional costs.
Never put these items in the dishwasher
One common mistake is putting wooden items in the dishwasher. High temperatures and water cause wooden spoons or boards to swell and crack.
Non-stick pans are another type of dishware that should not be placed in the dishwasher. The salt and detergents used in the dishwasher can destroy the non-stick coating. The same applies to dishes made from copper, zinc, aluminum, or enamel, which are not resistant to high temperatures.
Painted porcelain, delicate glass – Do not risk damage in the dishwasher
Delicate items such as crystals, porcelain cups, and decorative glass should not be put in the dishwasher. Detergents and high temperatures can damage them, so it is better to wash them by hand in cool water.
Knives should also not be regularly washed in the dishwasher, as they can dull faster and develop micro-damages.
Special attention should be paid to delicate glasses and goblets, and they should be placed in a stable position to avoid damage from water pressure. Before placing dishes in the dishwasher, it is also good to rinse them from food residues and remove labels, which helps prevent the filter and drain from clogging, extending the device's lifespan.
