Vatican condemns violent attempt on Trump's life in Pennsylvania
The Vatican expressed concern on Sunday and labelled the attempt on Donald Trump's life in Pennsylvania an "episode of violence." In the statement given to journalists, however, there is no direct reference to the former U.S. president.

In a statement issued in response to requests for comment on the events in Pennsylvania, the Vatican press office wrote, "The Holy See expresses concern over last night's episode of violence, which injures individuals and democracy, causing suffering and death."
It added that the Vatican "joins in prayer with the bishops of the United States—praying for America, for the victims, and for peace in the country, hoping that the reasons driving violence will never prevail."
Pope Francis, during his midday prayer meeting with the faithful on Sunday, did not refer to the events in the U.S.
Attempted assassination of Donald Trump
Former U.S. President Donald Trump was injured during a Saturday election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump fell to the ground during his speech, holding his head, after which he was escorted to his car by the Secret Service.
The former president fell to the ground, holding the side of his head. Trump stood up on his own, waved his fist towards the crowd, and was escorted to the car by Secret Service agents. Blood was visible on his head.
As a result of the attack, one person standing behind Trump died. The assailant was shot.
