Problems of the Ukrainian army have never been so grave. A Ukrainian commander has reported that the situation at the front is "the most dangerous since the beginning of the full-scale war." Experts point to two critical months.

Major Maksym Zhoryn of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in a post on Telegram, states that the current situation at the front is "the most dangerous since the beginning of the full-scale war." "In 2022, we encountered an outdated Russian army with a lack of officers experienced in combat. Yet today, we face a vastly improved adversary as the enemy evolves and adapts," he writes.

According to him, the Ukrainian army lost valuable time by delaying mobilization. During this period, Russian forces prepared for a "new offensive." Zhoryn notes that while he does not know the precise strategies, the Russians could advance in Kharkiv, the south, Donbas, or even all these regions simultaneously.

The military official also emphasized that his intention in sharing this is not to incite panic. He remains convinced that Ukrainians will overcome all challenges. "Preparations are ongoing. We'll do everything within our power. It's crucial for the entire country to be equally involved and to prepare alongside us," Zhoryn concluded.

Union, referencing experts, stresses that Ukrainians should solidify their defence line quickly. According to military experts, May and June are "critical." The success of the Ukrainian forces hinges on the timely arrival of Western weaponry. Unian's sources suggest that if the Ukrainians can hold on through these two months, then with Western support, they should manage to stabilize the front line by mid-summer.

Recently, Russians have succeeded in breaching the Ukrainian defence line north of Avdiivka and advancing to the town of Ocheretyn, expanding their controlled territory by approximately 321 square kilometres. According to the Institute for the Study of War, they are now gearing up to attack the town of Chasiv Yar. ISW points out that they possess a considerable numerical superiority there. The American think tank also acknowledged Russian army advancements in the Donetsk region.
