Ukrainian command reported that overnight, a strike was conducted on the position of the Russian military S-300 missile system near Novoshakhtinsk in the Rostov region.

"On the night of August 20, units of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in cooperation with other components of the army, struck the opponent's S-300 anti-aircraft missile system near the settlement of Novoshakhtinsk in the Rostov region in Russia," reads the statement from Ukraine's General Staff.

The General Staff reported that the attack resulted in an explosion. Work is currently underway to determine the accuracy of the hit.

"S-300 systems are used not only for defensive purposes"

In the General Staff's report, it was noted that "the S-300 systems are used by Russian invaders not only for defensive purposes but also to attack peaceful Ukrainian cities, destroy residential buildings, and terrorize civilians."

The General Staff assured that the Ukrainian Armed Forces would continue their cooperation, with a focus on the Russian army's significant targets.

"Our joint combat work, involving all components of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, is continuously ongoing," underlined the General Staff.

This is not the first Ukrainian attack in the Rostov region. As a result of one of the strikes, a fire broke out at a fuel base in the town of Proletarsk. Ukrainian drones attacked it on Sunday. The area engulfed by the flames covers as much as 108,000 square feet.
