Ukrainian forces make bold move into Russia's Kursk region
Ukrainians are in the Kursk region. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that his troops aim to "push the war onto enemy territory." A video from the village of Guevo, which the Ukrainians have taken over, has surfaced online. The soldiers demonstrated their actions after capturing the village.
The Ukrainian army has appeared on Russian territory. Soldiers entered the Kursk region on Tuesday (August 6), and fighting continues there. Due to the offensive from the Russian areas bordering Ukraine, more than 84,000 people have been evacuated.
The Ukrainian side took a long time to comment on reports of the attack on Russian soil. Only on Thursday (August 8), Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that soldiers had entered enemy territory.
Commander-in-Chief Syrskyi has made several reports today, both regarding the front and regarding bringing the war to the aggressor state. I am grateful to every unit of our defence forces that is involved. Ukraine is proving that it knows how to bring justice and will maintain the pressure on the aggressor, the necessary kind of pressure," said the Ukrainian president on Saturday evening.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine initially conducted a quick and effective attack, but its momentum somewhat slowed. The Institute for the Study of War analyzed geolocation data showing they held their captured positions. The Russians are doing everything to stop Kyiv's actions. In the Kursk, Belgorod, and Bryansk regions bordering Ukraine, the Russian authorities have implemented an "anti-terrorist operation regime" to prevent further advances by the Ukrainian army.

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are sharing the first recordings from occupied localities on the Russian side. One of them is Guevo, a small village in the Kursk region. The video shows Ukrainians stepping on the Russian flag and hoisting the yellow and blue banner.
Unfortunately, the Russians are already avenging Ukrainian actions on the battlefield. They are conducting an offensive in the Donbas. Once again, they have shelled Kyiv, where innocent people died—a man and his four-year-old daughter. As a result of the airstrikes in the Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Zaporizhia regions, six people were killed.
