The attack by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles on military facilities in Russia occurred overnight from Saturday to Sunday. The drones reportedly hit the production hall of the plant in Izhevsk, the capital of Udmurtia, more than 1,250 kilometres from the Ukrainian border, reports Defence Express.

Izhevsk is famous for producing weapons and military equipment, including the world-renowned AK-47 automatic rifles.

Personnel evacuated

According to reports, one person was injured as a result of the attack. It was an employee.

The Head of the Republic of Udmurtia, Aleksandr Brechalov, informed about receiving a report on the explosion on Lenin Street, where the plant is located and where, among other things, air defence systems are manufactured.

"Windows were smashed at the factory, but no severe damage occurred. Personnel were evacuated. Unfortunately, one person was injured and is currently hospitalized in moderate condition," Brechalov stated, adding that the injured worker suffered a head injury.

The information about the attack was also conveyed by Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Centre for Counteracting Disinformation, as quoted by the Espreso portal, which wrote that "unidentified drones attacked the Kupol electromechanical plants in Izhevsk, Russia, where Tor anti-aircraft systems and radar components are produced."

Novaya Gazeta reports that Russian drones are also among the products manufactured at the Kupol defence plants. It was indicated that this was the first recorded drone attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Udmurtia.
