Ukrainian drone attack halts production at major Russian plant
The "Kremnij EL" plant in Bryansk, one of Russia's largest microelectronics producers, has halted production following a Ukrainian drone attack. Energy facilities and warehouses sustained damage. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Ukrainian drones targeted the headquarters of Russia's second-largest microelectronics producer, JSC Kremnij EL Group plant in Bryansk. This company is under U.S. Department of the Treasury sanctions.
The plant manufactures microprocessors used by the Russian military for several applications, including Iskander ballistic missiles. The company participates in the Russian federal program "Alternative," which focuses on developing new radars with active phased array systems for air defence and installation on aircraft and ships.
The plant halted production
The Bryansk "Kremnij EL" plant had to cease operations following the drone attack. According to "Kommersant," six strikes were recorded overnight, damaging some production buildings and warehouses. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The Ministry of Defence reported that 37 drones were shot down overnight over the Bryansk region, 18 of which were reactive. The region's governor, Alexander Bogomaz, noted that a total of 121 drones were destroyed over Russian regions. This is not the first time the "Kremnij EL" plant has been targeted.
In October 2024, a similar incident caused power outages and production disruptions.
The recent attack has again disrupted production chains, forcing the plant to halt operations temporarily. However, the plant has confirmed no casualties among employees.
