Trump deliberates suspending military aid to Ukraine
Donald Trump is set to meet with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth to discuss the situation in Ukraine, reports "The New York Times." During the talks, a crucial decision regarding military aid to Kyiv may be made.
The US President plans to meet with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth to discuss the situation in Ukraine. The New York Times reported that American military aid to Kyiv could be suspended or terminated. This meeting is intended to respond to Sunday's meeting of European leaders in London.
The discussions will address the recent delivery of ammunition and weaponry, which Joe Biden's administration oversaw. Earlier, "The Washington Post" reported that the USA is considering halting the process of delivering weapons to Ukraine. The British Prime Minister hoped the USA remained committed to restoring peace between Ukraine and Russia despite tensions.
In his post on the Truth Social platform, Donald Trump suggested that the USA should "spend less time worrying about Putin, and more time worrying about migrant rape gangs, drug lords, murderers." "So that we don't end up like Europe," he concluded.
The British Prime Minister outlined points of the plan
At a press conference, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer declared that the meeting's goal was to unite partners around this initiative and efforts to "strengthen Ukraine and support a just and lasting peace for the good of us all." Starmer acknowledged that France and Great Britain now hold key roles in providing assistance and potential military presence in Ukraine.
Starmer stated that they had agreed to maintain military support for Ukraine while increasing economic pressure on Russia. He also announced a $1.9 billion allocation for 5,000 anti-aircraft missiles for Ukraine.
Starmer also discussed key action points.
The strategy is based on four main commitments:
- Ensuring the continued flow of military aid to Ukraine while intensifying economic pressure on Russia to reinforce Ukraine’s position.
- Guaranteeing that any lasting peace secures Ukraine’s sovereignty and security, with Ukraine actively participating in negotiations.
- Strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities even after a peace agreement to prevent future invasions.
- Establishing a coalition of willing nations to uphold the agreement and maintain peace. While some countries may be unable to contribute, those prepared to act must begin planning immediately. The United Kingdom is committed to supporting this effort with both ground operations and aerial support, emphasizing Europe's responsibility to take decisive action.
